In Nova Scotia, where the trend is away from the land, shorefront property is for cottages, not falcons. Conservationists have bigger projects than saving one nest. How to resist the inevitable subdivision and habitat disappearance? Hold that thought.
Have you wanted to claim your place in the cosmos? To forge your connection with the earth? There is a clock ticking in the firmament that puts our tiny existence in perspective. The clock cannot be stopped, but it can be watched and admired, and your place can be recognized and saluted, at least temporarily.
The Plan
Above the Fundy tides, with a 100 mile view of the bay sits Falconhenge. An observatory; a place to contemplate where you fit; a place to celebrate people and events of importance; a garden. And the wild home of the Peregrine Falcon.
There is a circle of trees defining a labyrinth. The 900 foot circumference mirrors the night sky and demonstrates celestial mechanics. On the great Circle, your tree stands at its place in the year.
Robert Frost wrote The Star Splitter about a similar project
We’ve looked and looked, but after all where are we?
Do we know any better where we are,
And how it stands between the night tonight
And a man with a smoky lantern chimney?
How different from the way it ever stood?
